Pune’s Silent Observer system for monitoring ultrasound machines wins mbillionth award

“Silent Observer” a system by Pune’s Sukrut Systems that is used in hospitals in Maharashtra to monitor use of ultrasound machines (and is hence used indirectly in the prevention of female foeticide) has won an mBillionth award in the m-Governance category, for 2013.

Silent Observer is a system which automatically updates a server whenever an untrasound machine is used. The government then uses this data to check whether the hospital / owner of the machine has filled the ‘Form F’ that is required to be filled in every time an ultrasound test of a pregnant woman is conducted. In 2011 it was found that after installation of Silent Observer in Kolhapur, the number of Form F submissions increased from 10000 to 15000.
