Project Report of Wikimedia Foundation’s Campus Ambassador Program Launch in Pune

Earlier this year, the Wikimedia Foundation (the people behind the Wikipedia) launched a “Campus Ambassador” program that would appoint students in various colleges/universities in Pune (and in some cases non-students too) who would take on the job of popularizing the Wikipedia in their college, encourage and teach other students to become editors, hold Wikipedia related events, and other activities to increase the contributions to Wikipedia from Pune colleges.

This activity is expected to be rolled out all over India later, but currently is being piloted in India.

Recently I came across the project planning page for this activity and was very impressed with the amount of thought and effort that has gone into selecting the right colleges, selecting the right students, identifying the correct stakeholders, identifying the right ways in which to “sell” the concept, and the detail with which everything has been documented.

A must read for anyone planning on rolling out some volunteer activity, or indeed, anyone trying to do sales and marketing, especially to the Indian education sector.
